Rehydrate, Moisturize & Remedy Minor Skin Problems.....
Moisturizers are used to re-hydrate the skin and remedy minor problems. Problems can be due to numerous variables including allergies, eczema, psoriasis, chemical peels, soaps, cleansers, drugs, and even the weather.
Moisturizers now make a lot of claims from erasing wrinkles to preventing skin cancer, but their sole purpose is to relieve dry skin, protect from weather induced problems, and prevent make-up from being absorbed into the skin during the day. As for preventing wrinkles or skin cancer, they can’t. Only a sunscreen can help prevent wrinkles or help skin from getting too much sun exposure by fending off sun damage that causes wrinkles and skin cancer. What a moisturizer does best is make wrinkles less noticeable by plumping up the top layers of the epidermis and filling out fine lines.
First thing to decide is whether you want a cream, lotion or serum. Creams are thicker. Lotions contain more water. Serums should be thick but fast penetrating. It is a matter of personal preference.
Night creams are richer and thicker and formulated with more lipids. They are not
to be worn under make-up. A night cream should rehydrate the upper layers of the epidermis by assisting the skin in holding more water. (See Nutrients)
